Community Solar

A community solar project is a solar power plant whose electricity is shared by multiple residents and businesses. Many American households and businesses do not have access to solar because they rent, live in multi-tenant buildings, or have roofs that are unable to host a solar system, or experience some other mitigating factors.

Community solar allows any and all members of a community to share the economic and environmental benefits of solar power even if they cannot or prefer not to install solar panels on their property.

Community Solar projects allocate their energy to local commercial and residential customers through utility credits. Customers reserve a percentage of the solar project’s utility credits, which are automatically applied to their bill each month.

The utility credits are sold at a discount to their value. This allows customers to save 10% annually on electricity and support local renewable energy without the upfront cost of installing solar.
